Frequently asked questions

Seattle's medical field, especially in specialties like gastroenterology, sees steady demand for Licensed Practical Nurses. Competition tends to be moderate due to the city's robust hospital network and specialized clinics, so showcasing relevant ambulatory care experience and Washington state licensure can significantly improve your hiring chances.

Employers in Seattle highly value LPNs who hold up-to-date Washington state practical nursing licenses and additional certifications in infection control or ambulatory care. Training in handling complex inpatient cases, such as those involving HIV/AIDS or end-of-life care, can be a distinct advantage in this region.

An LPN in gastroenterology typically manages patient triage, administers specialized care related to digestive health, and collaborates closely with gastroenterologists. Their role often involves monitoring patients with complex conditions like liver disease or digestive cancers, requiring sharp clinical assessment and empathetic patient communication.

Starting as an LPN in gastroenterology can lead to roles with increased responsibility such as clinical coordinator or specialized nursing practitioner. Pursuing advanced certifications or transitioning to registered nursing roles enhances career mobility, especially in integrated health systems like Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.

Licensed Practical Nurses in Seattle typically earn between $55,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience and specific clinical settings. Specialized roles in gastroenterology often command salaries at the higher end due to the complexity of care and required technical skills.

Gastroenterology clinics tend to have a fast-paced but structured workflow, requiring LPNs to juggle multiple patient needs efficiently. Hospitals may present more unpredictable scenarios and a broader case mix, but clinics often allow for closer provider collaboration and focused specialty care.
