What You'll Do as a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse:
- Provide Comprehensive Obstetric Care: Expertly assess, plan, implement, and evaluate personalized, evidence-based care for women throughout the labor, delivery, recovery, and immediate postpartum phases, as well as for their newborns.
- Perinatal Assessment & Monitoring: Utilize advanced skills in fetal monitoring, labor progression assessment, and identifying potential complications to ensure the safety of both mother and baby.
- Support & Educate: Be a compassionate guide for expectant parents, providing emotional support, coaching through labor, and educating on newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
- Collaborate for Optimal Outcomes: Work closely with OB/GYNs, anesthesiologists, and the entire L&D team to coordinate care plans, perform interventions, and respond effectively to emergent situations while maintaining a calm and reassuring presence.
- High-Acuity Care & Response: Demonstrate proficiency in managing complex labor and delivery situations, including vaginal births, C-sections, and immediate neonatal resuscitation.
- Adhere to Best Practices: Champion patient safety and adhere to AWHONN standards and hospital protocols, ensuring the highest quality of maternity and newborn care.
- Documentation & Communication: Maintain precise and timely documentation of patient care, assessments, and interventions, facilitating clear communication across the care team.
Work Agreement:
- FTE/hours: .9, 72 hours biweekly
- Shift type: Days & Nights rotation
- Shift Length: 12 hour
- On-call Expectations: Yes
- Weekend/holiday rotations: Every 3rd weekend/Rotating Holidays
What We're Looking For:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
- Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Dakota or a compact state upon hire.
- Experience:
- New Grads: We provide comprehensive training and mentorship to launch your career in L&D!
- Experienced L&D RNs: At least two (2) years of recent clinical experience in Labor & Delivery is strongly preferred. Experience in Mother/Baby or Postpartum also considered.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire or within the orientation period.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred or obtained within 6 months.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 3 months of hire.
- Fetal Monitoring (e.g., AWHONN Intermediate/Advanced EFM) certification preferred or obtained within 1 year.
- Skills:
- Exceptional clinical judgment and critical thinking skills specific to maternal/child health.
- Outstanding communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills, especially in high-stress situations.
- Ability to work effectively and calmly within a fast-paced, emotionally charged, and collaborative team environment.
- Strong patient advocacy and teaching abilities.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
