Overview
Under the direction of the Director and/or Assistant Director of the Speech Department, the Per Diem Therapy Aide - Speech Therapy provides essential support to the therapy team by escorting patients, transferring them on and off equipment, and performing patient/resident programs under supervision. The Per Diem Therapy Aide also assists with maintaining the general upkeep of the department.
Responsibilities
- Assist in changing patients to and from adaptive equipment as scheduled by therapists.
- Perform treatment procedures predetermined by therapists.
- Run upper extremity exercise classes as directed by therapists.
- Assist with the pool operations, including managing supplies, checking temperature, showering, dressing, and occasionally toileting patients, and disinfecting hydrotherapy equipment.
- Assist in maintaining the department, organizing equipment, and managing supplies.
- Demonstrate competency in the Meditech Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system; ensure timely and appropriate documentation.
- Participate in hospital training as needed.
- Clean therapy materials (e.g., toys, mats, feeding equipment).
- Transport patients/residents to and from designated locations.
- Maintain departmental inventories and supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Must be able to speak and write in English proficiently to perform job duties such as communicating with patients, writing documentation, and participating in team meetings.
Education, Licensure, and Certification
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to follow directions from professional staff.
- Good physical health and ability to perform heavy-duty work.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to lift, pull, carry, bend, crouch, and balance patients from light to heavyweight.
