Frequently asked questions

New I&C engineers often deal with integrating control panels and developing P&IDs under strict safety standards. Understanding complex network architectures and navigating field verification at remote oil and gas sites in Englewood requires practical problem-solving, especially when coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

This position contributes by reviewing control narratives and instrumentation specifications to identify potential safety risks early. By collaborating during design reviews, engineers help ensure control systems mitigate hazards effectively, a critical aspect in upstream and midstream oil and gas facilities.

While not mandatory, passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is highly regarded locally. Additionally, knowledge of SCADA systems and AutoCAD proficiency can differentiate candidates, aligning well with Colorado’s technical standards in oil and gas instrumentation.

Sargent & Lundy emphasizes mentorship and peer learning through structured technical sessions, offering robust career development. Unlike many entry-level roles, this position also involves close client interaction and field visits, providing hands-on exposure to both design and construction phases.

Demand is moderately strong due to ongoing upstream and midstream projects nearby. However, applicants with an ABET-accredited engineering degree and familiarity with oil and gas control systems find better opportunities, especially with companies like Sargent & Lundy that value teamwork and technical growth.

The role offers a competitive salary between $60,660 and $87,090 annually, reflecting local market standards for entry-level engineers in oil and gas. This range includes base pay complemented by discretionary bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package.

Yes, beyond standard health and retirement plans, they offer tuition assistance, professional licensure bonuses, and a merit scholarship program. Their award-winning culture also supports flexible work arrangements and generous paid leave, enhancing overall employee satisfaction.

Employees gain hands-on experience with P&ID development, control panel design, and SCADA networks while collaborating on multidisciplinary teams. The company’s structured mentoring and technical workshops accelerate learning in both practical and theoretical aspects of instrumentation engineering.

Englewood’s proximity to oil and gas hubs means frequent site visits, which might involve travel to rugged locations. Additionally, the local work culture balances technical rigor with strong team collaboration, supported by the city’s moderate cost of living and growing energy sector.

Starting as an Engineer 1, individuals can expect to deepen their control system design skills, gain project management exposure, and potentially earn professional licensure within a few years. The company’s peer-learning environment fosters growth toward senior engineering or specialized technical roles.
