How you make a difference
The Dental Hygienist provides dental care and promotes dental health by performing a variety of tasks under the supervision of a licensed dentist. They assess patient needs, clean teeth, take and develop dental x-rays, and educate patients on proper oral hygiene. They adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and protocols related to dental hygiene and maintain accurate patient records.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment room and select materials and equipment for dental hygiene visits.
- Provide oral hygiene and postoperative instructions to patients and answer their questions.
- Maintain and sterilize dental instruments, document dental hygiene services and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhere to infection-control policies and protocols, and conserve dental resources.
- Ensure proper functioning of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and evaluating new equipment and techniques
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Graduate from an accredited Dental Hygienist school
Experience
- Two (2) years’ experience
- Previous correctional/detention facility experience
- Five (5) years’ experience
Licenses/Certifications
- Unrestricted current Dental Hygiene license, certification or registration in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA
