Department Overview

Oregon Health & Science University is a nationally prominent research university and Oregon's only public academic health center. As a major regional referral center, OHSU has a varied and challenging caseload. Annually, the lab processes over 3500 bone marrow specimen and ~4500 flow samples that need hematopathologists’ interpretation. The Department of Pathology has a collegial faculty, AP/CP residency program, and eight post-graduate fellowship programs. OHSU offers a variety of collaborative research opportunities and is home to the Knight Cancer Institute, an international leader in research and cancer treatment.

This position is under the overall supervision of the Department Chair. The appointee shall provide services, as assigned by the supervisor, in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

This position reports to (supervisor): GUANG FAN, MD, PHD, CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY & LABORATORY MEDICINE

Function/Duties of Position

This position will be assigned to the Clinical Pathology Division, with principal responsibilities in Hematopathology. Clinical responsibilities include diagnosis of a diverse array of adult and pediatric bone marrow and tissue cases (lymph node, spleen etc)  with sharing evening and weekend hematopathology call on an equal basis. Interpreting molecular hematopathology testing is optional. The candidate is also expected to participate in clinical teaching and research activities.  Service and other assignments will be reviewed and modified by the department Chair, as needed.

Your educational responsibilities include participation in the instructional program for medical and graduate students, residents and fellows of the Department as assigned by the Chair.

Your service responsibilities include participation in committees and councils of OHSU; outreach and public service programs and professional societies with the knowledge and consent of the Chair.

Your research responsibilities are to participate in clinical and basic research programs at OHSU as opportunities provide, and to work toward funding these studies through grants and contracts.

The effort for this position at present is divided:  10% teaching; 80% clinical service; 10% research.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified/board-eligible and be qualified for unrestricted medical licensure in the state of Oregon. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in academic medicine through participation in research or other scholarly activities, the ability to work in a collaborative research and clinical environment, strong written and verbal communication skills, and an interest in teaching pathology residents and fellows.
