Overview
The CLASS Attendant is responsible for providing direct care and support services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) enrolled in the Community Living Assistance and Support Services (CLASS) program. The attendant assists clients with daily living activities, personal care, and the implementation of individualized service plans to enhance their quality of life and promote independence.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Provide mobility assistance, including transferring clients from beds to wheelchairs and other necessary movements.
- Observe and report any changes in the client's physical or emotional condition to the appropriate healthcare professional.
- Administer medications as directed and assist with medical appointments.
- Perform light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation.
- Ensure a safe and clean-living environment for clients.
- Assist clients in participating in community activities and social events.
- Support clients in accessing community resources and services.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided, client progress, and any incidents or concerns.
- Complete required reports and submit them to supervisors as needed.
- Implement and follow individualized service plans (ISPs) developed for each client.
- Collaborate with other team members, including healthcare providers and case managers, to ensure comprehensive care.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of clients.
- Encourage and support clients in making choices and developing self-advocacy skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; exceptions to educational requirements must comply with state regulations
- Experience providing services and supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or in a caregiving role is preferred
- Minimum age requirement is 18 years
- Must meet pre-employment requirements based on company and/or State regulations
- Must have the ability to use a computer utilizing company documentation systems
- Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external
- Capable of working responsibly with highly confidential information
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently, work as a team, and adapt to changing
