Frequently asked questions

Select Medical’s Day Institute focuses on neurological and medically complex patients recovering from traumatic injuries, offering a multidisciplinary rehab approach. This environment demands specialized skills in coordinating therapy and creating tailored home programs, distinguishing it from more general outpatient speech therapy roles.

SLPs at Select Medical actively participate in clinical meetings to synchronize patient care plans with therapists and clinicians from various disciplines, ensuring comprehensive rehabilitation strategies that enhance patient outcomes in a dynamic, team-driven workplace.

Candidates must possess a valid state license for speech language pathology, CPR certification, and ideally the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA or be eligible for certification pending experience, aligning with Illinois state requirements and local healthcare standards.

O'Fallon and the greater St. Louis metro area show steady demand for speech language pathologists, especially within specialized rehab centers. Competition remains moderate, with opportunities growing due to an aging population and increased focus on neurological recovery services.

This position is per diem, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm, offering predictable daytime hours ideal for those seeking work-life balance while delivering specialized outpatient care.

The role offers tiered compensation with Tier I at $42/hour and Tier II at $45/hour, reflecting experience and credentials, which aligns competitively with regional outpatient rehab salary standards for speech language pathologists.

Select Medical fosters career development through exposure to complex neurological cases, multidisciplinary collaboration, and access to employee assistance programs, providing a nurturing environment for honing advanced clinical skills and expanding therapeutic expertise.

Daily tasks involve comprehensive patient evaluations, goal setting with measurable outcomes, coordinating care with other specialists, and preparing patients for discharge with customized home programs, all tailored to complex neurological rehabilitation.

Per diem employees are eligible for 401k benefits upon reaching 1,000 hours within their first year or subsequent calendar years, along with access to employee assistance programs that support financial and emotional well-being.

Expertise in treating neurological and medically complex patients is highly valued, as the Day Institute caters specifically to individuals recovering from traumatic injuries, requiring nuanced therapeutic approaches for maximizing independence.
