Job Summary and Responsibilities
In keeping with the Dignity Health core values, a laboratory assistant performs routine automated testing in multiple areas of the clinical laboratory in a timely manner under direct supervision of licensed personnel. Has all quality control for testing performed reviewed by licensed personnel. Performs routine maintenance and repair on instruments utilized as directed. Other duties associated with clinical lab functions are clerical in nature, including, but not limited to such acts as patient registration, telephone communication, filing, sorting, distribution, typing, data entry and frequent use of laboratory computer system(s) to process specimens. Verifies eligibility, benefits, authorization requirements, PCP approval, and billing requirements as appropriate. May work out of various patient service centers. Use of personal vehicles may be required.
This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Job Requirements
- Six (6) months experience as a laboratory assistant
Preferred Requirements:
- One (1) year experience as a laboratory assistant
- Current AHA CPR certification
- Current Phlebotomist certification
Special Skills:
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to be an effective team member
- Basic knowledge of testing procedures and medical terminology
