Position Summary:
The ED Tech coordinates communications on the unit; provides materials to staff and physicians; and provides direct patient care as listed on ER Tech skills checklist.

Responsibilities
- Collects vital signs accurately according to directions of nurse caring for patient.
- Uses standard precautions and complies with infection control policies.
- Collects lab specimens as needed to maximize patient flow.
- Performs STAT EKG’s.
- Enters and updates the ED tracking boards promptly to maximize its usefulness as a communication tool.
- Orders patient care supplies and keeps patient care supplies stocked in proper amounts.
- Cleans and wraps instruments for autoclaving, with ability to correctly identify and replace proper surgical instruments on appropriate trays.
- Checks equipment daily for proper function and completes maintenance requisitions as appropriate.
- Assists with transportation of patients to other areas of the medical center.
- Maintains proper levels of supplies on eye tray, ENT tray, Glucometer, etc.
- Completes all items/activities on Tech. Checklist of daily activities.
- Prepares wounds for MD. Cleans and dresses wounds appropriately.
- Assists MD with splints.
- Applies immobilizers and ace bandages, and fits patient for crutches.
- Assists MD with pelvic exams.
- Assists in triage with vital signs.
- Administers appropriate treatments to patients with scope of ability. Reports observed changes in patient condition to nurse.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Removes medications form the delivery system and promptly gives to the appropriate nursing staff.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Must be a certified medical assistant, or have successfully completed training as an Emergency Medical Technician or successfully completed the first year of an accredited nursing school program, or have CNA certification.*
Minimum Experience
Functional knowledge of medical terminology, software and hardware related to data and ordering systems preferred.
Licensure Requirement
Must be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR/Provider C) or be recertified during the orientation period.
