A Perioperative Registered Nurse plays a dual role. In the pre-op phase, they prepare patients for surgery by reviewing medical histories, conducting physical assessments, and ensuring informed consent is obtained. These RNs manage presurgical anxiety and administer necessary medications. In the PACU or recovery phase, the RN monitors patients as they emerge from anesthesia, managing pain levels and observing vital signs to ensure stable recovery. Perioperative RN provides education on discharge instructions and necessary follow-up care. Key responsibilities include patient assessment, medication administration, pain management, and patient education. These roles are essential for patient safety and effective perioperative care.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):
Pre-Operative Care:
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including medical history and current health status, to prepare for surgery.
- Educate patients and their families about the surgical procedure, addressing any concerns or questions.
- Ensure pre-operative instructions are understood and followed, including fasting protocols and medication management.
- Start IV lines, administer pre-operative medications, and prepare documentation.
Post-Anesthesia Care (PACU):
- Monitor patients' vital signs and recovery progress immediately following surgery.
- Provide comprehensive care, addressing pain management, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms.
- Communicate findings and patient status effectively with anesthesiologists and surgical teams.
- Ensure that patients meet discharge criteria and provide thorough post-operative care instructions to patients and their caregivers.

Qualifications
Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:
- Current and valid state RN License.
- Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
- PALS (AHA) certificate preferred.
- Previous Critical Care or PACU experience or minimum of one year on the job training.
- Critical Care RN (CCRN) preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
