Job Overview

Shriners Children’s Twin Cities is seeking a part-time Physician Assistant to join our dedicated, mission-driven team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic clinical environment, supporting surgical and outpatient pediatric orthopedic care for children and adolescents.

This position entails a 0.6 FTE commitment (3 days per week), with outpatient clinic hours as weekdays 8:00am to 4:30pm (staying longer when patient care goes over). The clinic is not open on weekends or evenings and observes federal holidays. PAs participate in the call pool on a rotating basis (~4-6 weeks per year) which includes after-hours phone coverage through an answering service, with surgeons always available for backup. Call is home-based and does not involve ER coverage. This PA will also be expected to participate in 1-2 of the clinic’s monthly outreach clinics per year which occur over 2 days at our Rapid City, Omaha, or Wadena outreach sites.

This is a salaried, exempt, full-benefits eligible position. The pay range for this position is $56,975.14 to $97,668.48. Compensation is determined based on years of clinical experience and departmental equity.

Responsibilities

  • Perform age-appropriate health assessments, physical exams, and develop comprehensive care plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Manage pre- and post-operative care for pediatric orthopedic patients across clinic and surgical settings.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests; prescribe medications and treatments within licensure and Shriners Children’s protocols.
  • Assist in specialty surgical procedures and perform routine clinical interventions.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinics and care conferences to ensure coordinated, family-centered care.
  • Educate patients, families, and staff on treatment plans and home care.
  • Document all care in the electronic health record and contribute to quality, safety, and improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a mentor or preceptor when assigned and maintain all licensure, certifications, and institutional standards.
  • Engage in education opportunities for community health care professionals and organizations I topics related to pediatric orthopedics and/or our clinic when available/if asked.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master of Physician Assistant Studies (or equivalent degree) from an accredited Physician Assistant program

Experience

  • 2+ years of clinical experience in a pediatric or pediatric specialty setting preferred. New graduates will also be considered based on clinical experience.
  • Experience with pediatric orthopedic patient populations preferred

Certification and Licensures

  • Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the state of practice
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Must possess eligibility for active DEA
  • Must possess Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS for HCP). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required based on clinical assignment
  • Credentialing and privileging by the medical staff in accordance with hospital bylaws

Additional Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong pediatric assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with pediatric specialty protocols and post-surgical care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Proficient in EHR systems (Epic) and clinical documentation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, family-centered care, and trauma-informed practice.
