The Respiratory Care Practitioner II (RCP II) is responsible for performing respiratory therapy treatments and pulmonary diagnostic procedures as ordered by the physician. This position focuses on the assessment, planning, implementation, and documentation of patient care, taking into account age- and population-specific needs. In the absence of a supervisor, the RCP II may be designated as the Lead RCP, assuming responsibility for departmental operations during the assigned shift.
Responsibilities
Perform respiratory therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in accordance with physician orders and established departmental protocols.
Assess, plan, and implement individualized respiratory care plans for patients across the lifespan.
Monitor and evaluate patient responses to therapy, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
Administer oxygen and aerosolized medications safely and effectively.
Manage and operate mechanical ventilators, non-invasive ventilation, and other respiratory equipment.
Perform arterial punctures and analyze blood gases to assess ventilation and oxygenation status.
Participate in emergency resuscitation efforts, including Code Blue responses.
Provide education to patients and families regarding respiratory care techniques and equipment use.
Accurately document all care, treatments, and assessments in the medical record.
Maintain competency and ensure compliance with all infection control and safety procedures.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
Serve as Lead RCP when assigned, providing guidance, delegation, and support to other team members during the shift.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings as required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. State Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License required
2. Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
3. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
4. 2 years experience as an RCP preferred.
5. ACLS certificate within 60 day of hire and maintain current.
6. NRP certificate preferred
7. PALS certificate within 60 days of hire and maintain current.
8. Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science degree preferred
9. High School Diploma or equivalent is required
