Frequently asked questions

To work as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) in Austin, Texas, you must have national CTRS certification, a bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or equivalent, and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification. Local employers may also value experience with neurologic or orthopedic rehabilitation.

A CTRS usually designs and implements recreation activities tailored to patients' physical and cognitive needs, collaborates with rehab teams, monitors progress, and trains patients and caregivers. The role blends community reintegration efforts with clinical evaluation and documentation.

Growth opportunities include specialization in neurorehabilitation, leadership roles in rehab program management, or further education to become a clinical therapist. Continuous education and certifications can open doors to supervisory or community outreach positions.

At Adoration Home Health & Hospice, strong skills in community-based neurorehabilitation, patient-centered recreational program design, and effective interdisciplinary communication are highly prized, reflecting their 'rehab without walls' approach.

This position emphasizes flexible scheduling, no weekend or holiday work, and community-focused rehabilitation outside institutional settings, aligning with Adoration's innovative home-based care philosophy.

Austin's growing healthcare sector increases demand for CTRS professionals, but competition remains moderate. Candidates with neurorehabilitation experience and flexible availability tend to have an advantage.

While Austin has expanding public transit, many therapeutic recreation specialists rely on personal vehicles due to flexible schedules and home visits. Traffic congestion during peak hours may impact travel times between appointments.

Hourly wages for CTRS professionals in Austin typically range from $30 to $45, depending on experience and certifications. Positions offering flexible schedules and mileage reimbursement, like this role, add valuable compensation benefits.

CTRS specialists assess patient interests and limitations, coordinate therapeutic recreational activities, monitor progress, and adjust plans collaboratively with the rehab team, ensuring community reintegration aligns with individual recovery goals.
