Responsibilities

This role is a key contributor within the Berkley Global Underwriters (BGU) organization, responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and implementing compliant international policy forms and structures. The position requires an underwriting foundation, with the ability to apply sound judgment and technical expertise to support global insurance solutions. The role involves close collaboration with operating units to address international needs, including network and line of business expansion, while refining tools, resources, and communication of capabilities.

Under the direction the SVP, Berkley Global Underwriters: 

  • Serve as part of the leadership team responsible for the continued development and implementation of an integrated global network and infrastructure.
  • Draft and maintain policy contracts, supporting documentation, and related correspondence for international exposures, ensuring alignment with underwriting intent and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist underwriters, Legal, and Claims in resolving complex contract wording
  • Assist and train underwriters on issues related to local coverage concerns international coverage nuances, local regulatory considerations, and policy structuring best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of marketing materials and product positioning strategies to support international growth.
  • Design and enhance tools and procedures that enable efficient execution of local admitted policies across multiple placement structures.
  • Independently lead projects and strategic initiatives, leveraging underwriting insight and building support across the enterprise. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive alignment and ensure successful outcomes.
  • Engage, educate and influence multiple constituents, both overseas and domestic, on procedures to access global network.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 
    • 5+ years of experience in property & casualty underwriting required
    • Knowledge of Controlled Master Programs and multinational program structuring highly preferred
    • Experience in drafting, reviewing, and refining insurance policy contracts to ensure clarity, compliance, and alignment with underwriting strategy.
    • Demonstrated ability to apply underwriting judgment to global risks and tailor solutions to meet client and regulatory needs.
