Overview
Performs ultrasound exams (including on portable equipment) of abdomen, pelvis, major vessels, small parts (including breast, thyroid, testicular, pylorus and appendix studies), neonatal brains and Obstetrical studies. Instructs and provides clinical supervision to ultrasound students and Radiology residents in specific area of expertise. Gives verbal preliminary reports of sonogram results to M.D.
Responsibilities
- Performs ultrasound exams (including on portable equipment) of abdomen, pelvis, major vessels, small parts (including breast, thyroid, testicular, pylorus and appendix studies), neonatal brains and Obstetrical studies.
- Performs Doppler studies of the carotids, abdomen, pelvis, small parts and peripheral vascular.
- Performs localizations for invasive procedures under ultrasound guidance.
- Schedules patients for sonography and arranges for patients to be prepped.
- Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance to hospital policy.
- Instructs and provides clinical supervision to ultrasound students and Radiology residents in specific area of expertise.Gives verbal preliminary reports of sonogram results to M.D.
- Assessment, treatment and patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Functions independently with regard to individualizing each exam relative to clinical history.Keeps current regarding developments in trends and techniques of diagnostic sonography by reading technical journals, participating in in-service education programs, attending conferences, etc.Transports patients to and from Ultrasound as required.Maintains a clean and orderly work area.Provides patient comfort (e.g., bedpans, blankets) as required.
Qualifications
- One to two (1-2) years experience performing Ultrasound examinations
- Training in Ultrasound systems
- Professional certification not mandatory but is preferred by most employers
- Associate Degree in Health Care/Sonography
- Bachelor Degree
- Computer literacy
