Frequently asked questions

Lisbon, ND offers a unique setting with a critical access hospital, which means Radiologic Technologists here often experience a broader scope of duties with close patient interaction. While the demand is steady, competition can be lower than in urban centers, making it a favorable spot for new grads and experienced techs seeking community-focused roles.

Employers in North Dakota often require the ARRT national registration and either the North Dakota MIRT certification or a willingness to obtain it. Additionally, holding a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is typically expected to ensure patient safety and compliance with local healthcare standards.

Working at a smaller hospital demands versatility, including handling various imaging modalities such as X-rays, CT scans, and EKGs. Radiologic Technologists must maintain equipment independently, manage radiation safety vigilantly, and adapt quickly to patient needs, making the role both technically and interpersonally dynamic.

Top performers combine technical proficiency in imaging techniques with strong patient communication abilities. Mastery of equipment troubleshooting, radiation safety, and precise patient positioning are crucial. Additionally, being adaptable to diverse imaging demands and maintaining a compassionate approach enhances diagnostic accuracy and patient experience.

Entry-level Radiologic Technologists often begin with supervised imaging tasks, gradually mastering advanced modalities like CT scans. Career growth can lead to specialization in interventional radiology or supervisory roles. Facilities like Catholic Health Initiatives support new graduates with comprehensive training, facilitating a smooth transition into proficient practitioners.

Catholic Health Initiatives invests in ongoing training, including hands-on learning with diverse imaging equipment and updates on radiation safety protocols. Their collaborative environment encourages skill enhancement through clinical team meetings, ensuring technologists stay current with best practices while fostering a patient-centered care approach.

The entry-level salary in Lisbon, ND typically ranges around $55,000 to $65,000 annually, reflecting the rural healthcare setting and cost of living. With the offered $30,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance, Catholic Health Initiatives provides a competitive compensation package attractive to both new graduates and experienced technologists.

At Catholic Health Initiatives, technologists often take on a broader range of imaging responsibilities due to the hospital's critical access status. There's a closer connection with patients and clinical teams, and technologists typically engage more in equipment maintenance and quality assurance, offering a well-rounded experience compared to more specialized roles in urban centers.
