Frequently asked questions

Investment Accounting Managers in Greenwich often analyze mismatches by scrutinizing trade details and collaborating with trade settlement teams to correct errors. Their role includes investigating variances in accounting results versus expected economics, ensuring accurate reconciliation to maintain financial integrity.

Proficiency in pivot tables, Power Query, complex lookups, filters, sorts, and financial modeling is vital. These tools streamline large datasets, enabling precise investment transaction analysis and reporting, critical for managing investment accounting at Nautilus Insurance.

Growth paths often lead to senior financial leadership roles such as Director of Investment Accounting or VP of Financial Reporting. Developing expertise in GAAP compliance, statutory reporting, and process optimization can open doors to strategic decision-making positions.

Greenwich, as a financial services hotspot, offers solid demand but with moderate competition versus larger hubs like NYC. Candidates with robust GAAP knowledge and investment reconciliation experience stand out in this market.

While CPA certification is universally valued, familiarity with Connecticut’s regulatory nuances and experience in statutory accounting standards aligned with local insurers enhance a candidate’s edge in Greenwich’s financial sector.

Nautilus emphasizes predictability and confidence in financial reporting, which fosters a culture of meticulous accuracy and proactive problem-solving. Managers are encouraged to lead controls improvement and deliver clear investment insights aligned with corporate growth.

Given Nautilus’s sizable premium volume and diverse investment portfolios, managers must adeptly handle complex reconciliations and statutory schedules. The role demands agility in adapting to evolving controls and maintaining high audit readiness.

Salaries typically range from $110,000 to $135,000 annually. Factors influencing pay include expertise in GAAP and statutory accounting, proficiency with tools like PeopleSoft and PAM, and the candidate’s track record in investment reconciliation and process improvements.

Ideal candidates demonstrate deep understanding of fixed income and equity accounting principles, strong analytical skills, and hands-on experience with investment transaction recording. Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP and statutory rules is essential.

At Nautilus, investment accounting roles are tightly integrated with insurance-specific statutory reporting and premium tracking, reflecting the company’s focus on commercial lines. This contrasts with other Berkley entities that may prioritize reinsurance or monoline excess accounting nuances.
